Tigers sign Dietrich Enns to minor league deal

Tigers agree to minor league contract with left-hander Dietrich Enns. The 33-year-old southpaw announced the news on social media last week.

Enns is trying to return to the majors for the first time since 2021. Enns posted a 2.82 ERA in a limited sample. This caught the attention of Japan’s Seibu Lions. Seibu finalized the deal to purchase his contract. Enns spent two seasons there, compiling a 3.62 ERA in 176 1/3 innings at the NPB level.

The Central Michigan product changed countries but remained in Asia for the 24th season. Enns signed with the LG Twins of the Korean Baseball Organization. He made 30 starts, pitching 167 1/3 frames with a 4.19 ERA. Enns struck out 22% of his opponents and walked 7%. After the season, the Twins brought in Johnny Chirinos and re-sign Elicel Hernandez Serving as their foreign-born pitcher in 2025.

Enns is expected to open the season with Triple-A Toledo. He could start or work long-term with Detroit’s workforce, which values flexibility. AJ Hinch uses a lot of openers and bulk relievers from behind Tarik Skubal this past season. That’s likely to continue with the final two rotation spots after Skubal, Reese Olson and Alex Cobb.
