Warriors unlikely to pursue Jimmy Butler before deadline: report

The Warriors are eager to add another star to pair with Stephen Curry as the team’s championship window gets closer to closing, but Jimmy Butler likely won’t be the one, according to multiple sources star.

The Golden State Warriors were interested in the 36-year-old and made “several calls” over the summer.

But don’t expect the Warriors to follow in Jimmy’s footsteps now that the Heat have officially acquired him.

“The Warriors are ‘uneasy’ about bringing in Butler, even with reports that the Miami Heat star is interested in joining the Golden State Warriors, league sources say,” NBC’s Monte Poole said.

Competitor shared similar insights:

“…According to sources close to Butler, the Warriors are not considered a viable option at this time and there have not been any substantial negotiations or push to complete any type of trade. Butler’s history and reputation are as A quality two-way perimeter player – something the Warriors could exploit, and there’s some credibility to the idea that his mid-range shooting and defensive prowess could elevate the Warriors to the next level of playoff threat. But Butler’s age and injury history make him a risky option, and his price tag makes him an untenable option.

Butler will make $48.8 million this season and has a $52.4 million player option next season.

In order to facilitate a trade for Butler to join the Golden State Warriors, the Warriors would need to include Andrew Wiggins ($26.2 million) or Draymond Green ($24.1 million) to match the salary. The deal would also have to include other role players on the team — so you’d bet your house on Himmy Buckets.

For a player who missed 18 regular season games in 2022-23, missed 22 last season and has played in just 12 of 32 games so far this season due to multiple injuries, the waiver is significant.

There have also been recent reports that the Mavericks and Rockets have no interest in Butler, while the Suns are hoping to facilitate a trade only if a third team is involved.
