Tom McKibbin plays coy about reports linking him with LIV Golf

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Just weeks after qualifying for the PGA Tour, Tom McKibbin may be headed to the LIV Golf League.
When asked on Wednesday about a possible switch to the Saudi-funded Breakout circuit, the Northern Irish golfer told Golf Digest Middle East: “I won’t be making any comments this week.”
The 22-year-old McKibbin, ranked 110th, spoke as he prepared for the Team Cup, an unofficial event that prepares future European players for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in September. Be prepared.
McKibbin will play for the Great Britain and Ireland team, captained by Justin Rose, against players from the continent under the watchful eye of European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.
McKibbin said he did not want to comment on LIV Golf’s report “out of respect for Luke and Justin and the game.”
“It’s a team sport,” he said, “so I just want to try my best for the team and see how many points I can get.”
Spanish website TenGolf first reported the possibility of McKibbin moving to LIV Golf.
He grew up playing at the same club as fellow golfer Rory McIlroy, Holywood Golf Club.
After the World Tour Championship in Dubai in November, McIlroy received a hug from McIlroy when he learned he had earned a PGA Tour card based on points earned during the European Tour season.
