Day 2 in 2025 Player Champion Completed Min Woo Lee and Akshay Bhatia One shot leading JJ Spaunand the advantages of two-stroke Alex Smalley and the main winner Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa. Who are we seeing moving on Saturday’s Moving Day? We asked our staff.
Who are you seeing moving on Saturday at the Players Championship?
Nick Piastowski, Senior Editor (@Nickpia): My pre-match draft pick Justin Thomas looks pretty good on Friday, doesn’t it? (We won’t talk about Thursday, though.) Let’s see if we can make another reliable option. I like Sahith theegala. Putting it in the yard can sometimes be a problem, but no one will shape the ball better.
Senior writer Dylan Dethier (@dylan_dethier): OK, these guys may not win the golf tournament, but if you’re looking for some early reported fireworks, check out Daniel Berger and Xander Schauffele. They’re just only Sneaking inside a cut line below par means they are 10 backwards. But they may be better than the afternoon weather. They are very good at golf.
Josh Schrock, deputy news editor (@schrock_and_awe): Can I say Scottie Scheffer? The two-time defending champion was frustrated with the icy putters at TPC Sawgrass, but he got nearly three TEE TEE-GREEN and he rose up in five-shot five-shot position to raise when gusts of wind began to whip on Saturday. If we look further on the board, I feel like Russell Henley, Daniel Berger and Jordan Spieth can take advantage of the calm conditions and release something lower as early as possible.
Senior Editor Jessica Marksbury (@Jess_MarkSbury): Considering Saturday’s strong wind forecast, it looks like Survival may be a vote in round 3. If the lower rankings can create a few photos in the early wave of Tee Tee Times, they are even more powerful! But for the leader, patience and experience will bring dividends. After two super low scores, players like Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa may end up being a star’s day after two super lows, and start it to the pile of the last round.
Josh Sens(@Joshsens): Sepp Straka was called recently. A great Ironman player, far enough to sneak into the leader under tough conditions.
