There’s nothing better than hitting brittle iron. The feeling of catching a close shot cleanly and watching it go straight to the pin is unparalleled. These types of shots will keep you coming back for more.

advantage? They hit this type of ball a lot. Weekend warrior? Not so much. Marking irons is more of an exception than a rule.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t strive for more. This year, our readers made it clear that elite batting skills are top of mind.

Back in February, we published a story featuring Phil Mixon’s best hitting tips , and it was one of our most-read stories of the year. You can read the entire article here , or continue for a summary of what he shared.

Left-handed batting skills

When it comes to elite golf shots, all great golfers have one thing in common – starting with the right setup.

“You can’t find a good hitter whose arm and club are straight,” Mixon said. “You can get back in that position and even swing at 100 miles an hour or whatever and feel like you’re back on track.”

When you go to the driving range to practice, it’s wise to check this line to make sure it’s as straight as possible. If you don’t get these basics in order, you’re doomed to fail before you can take back the club.

“all [poor] Hitters will start with their hands back, and all good hitters will start with their forearms straight,” he said. “So I’ll start with a straight line going back, and then I’ll feel it go back to a straight line [coming down]”.

If you’re struggling to hit consistent shots with your irons, try Mixon’s advice. It might solve your batting woes.
