Rory McIlroy

Tournament organizers announced Tuesday that Rory McIlroy is committed to next week’s Houston Open, his final start before the Masters.

McIlroy won the Player Championship game, defeating JJ Spaun in the three-hole playoffs on Monday. He later admitted that he hoped to compete in another match ahead of the Masters, which will take place from April 10 to 13. A long-term victory will complete the world’s second professional grand slam.

Valspar in Florida will be after the Houston Open this week, followed by the Texas Open.

“No, I think three weeks (go to the Masters without going to the game), that’s too much, so I’m sure I’m going to one of those events in Texas, whether it’s Houston or San Antonio, I’m sure.”

McIlroy played four Houston Opens, but his last appearance was in 2014.

Scottie Scheffler, who is also the world’s number one in Houston this year.
