The Red Sox have been dealing with some tensions around the infield this spring as they recently acquired Alex Bregman Questions about Bregman have been raised and extended Rafael Devers– Will play in 2024. Bregman is a superior defender at third base, but openly emphasizes that his position is third base. Meanwhile, team officials refused to announce Devers or Bregman as the starting third baseman. Today, Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow Talked to journalists (including Masslive’s Sean McAdam) and downplayed the severity of any club problems that could arise in the team’s infield consistency.
“I don’t think it’s a scary place to talk about a really good player in the position.” Breslow said, as McAdam passed on. “…My duty is to bring the best teams into the offense and defense I can…so we will continue these conversations.”
Breslow’s comments seem to make it clear that the club has no intention of handing him a third base job out of respect for his tenure in the position. Given that the club seems to have been determining its infield alignment based on performance this spring, Breslow notes that he is confident in the manager’s abilities Alex Cora Deal with any concerns inside the clubhouse, which is caused by the ongoing battle for third base.
“But, part of the reason why Alex is the perfect manager for the Red Sox as an organization is his ability to direct clubhouses, his ability to communicate with players of different cultures and races.” Breslow said, as McAdam passed on. “He is a great communicator. …Any time there are talent lines, there are players who want more game time or fill different roles. You rely on the manager to be able to have these conversations and get everyone to the same Going forward in the direction.”
If Bregman eventually migrates DEVER to DH, Cora’s ability to communicate and command clubs may be tested. Devers has long maintained a desire to stick to third bases and clearly expressed a very strong preference for staying in the hot corners throughout his career, and Cora himself even admitted that Devers was promised that he would be the club’s third baseman Long’s term. A 10-year extension was signed with the club before the 2023 season. Of course, the deal was placed by former chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom instead of Breslow in the door to the tensions the Black Sox faced.

Per Smith, the right-hander has taken a big step in preparing for the start of the season, and tomorrow he plans to drop his first live hit practice since riding his knife last year.
Giolito’s status is entering the season’s figures, and given that both Crawford and Bello are both their own nursing injuries, it’s very important to the Red Sox’s position. Smith added that Bello threw it out from 90 feet today when he fought back from a sore shoulder and his progress from here will be determined by a strength test later today. As for Crawford, the right-handed felt uncomfortable due to long tossing and pat tendons in bullpen meetings. It’s a worrying sign for the right-hander who threw his knees for most of the 2024 season. These issues have lingered at the start of this year’s camp, seemingly putting Crawford’s opening day in doubt.
In the more pleasant hurt news, Smith writes Southpaw Chris Murphy The bullpen has resumed after Tommy John’s surgery in April. South Claws won’t be a factor in the Red Sox for the year at least, but Smith introduced Murphy’s hopes to pitch in the Grand Slam sometime in 2025 won’t be completely ruled out for the season Half time.
