Pohlad Family Seeks $1.7 billion in Twins

The Pohlad family’s efforts to sell twins hit a major stumbling block when presumed leader Justin Ishbia exited the process to increase his minority share of the White Sox. Pohlads continues to evaluate the market, but there is no longer a clear timeline for when it can be sold–and there is no guarantee they will be sold completely.
According to a report by Dan Hayes, Ken Rosenthal and Brittany Ghiroli, the asking price for the pohlads is “believed” at least $1.7 billion. The campaign wrote that Pohlads saw a purchase price of $1.5 billion, which floated by a potential buyer and was the “non-starter” in the discussion.
Last year, Forbes estimated the club’s value was about $1.46 billion. Sportico’s 2024 valuation is more in line with the obvious asking price, as the publication is worth about $1.7 billion. Orioles are the recently sold franchise, purchased for $1.72 billion in January 2024.
Interestingly, the sport wrote that the twins executive vice president Joe Pohlad prefers to maintain control over the organization. The 42-year-old Pohlad only took over the day-to-day operations in November 2022. His grandfather, Carl Pohlad, bought the team in 1984 for 44mm. After Carl Pohlad died in 2009, his son, Joe’s Jim (Joe’s Uncle) was under control. Thirteen years later, Jim Pohlad handed over the battle to his nephew. It seems that the interest in the sales team is different within the family.
If Pohlads eventually turns around and pulls the team out of the market, there is almost nothing like never before. Angel owner Arte Moreno announced in August 2022 that he is exploring sales. Five months later, he pulled the team back. The Lerner family had considered selling nationals between 2022-23 and then abandoned the process in February last year. Twin fans are encouraged to read the sports column in full while exploring challenges such as the collapse of the twins’ previous TV deal, a decline in attendance, and said to be above average debt over 425mm).
