Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. On Friday, I started the perfect start at TPC Sawgrass when I walked into the Media Center dining and saw an omelette station. After a hearty breakfast and oatmeal milk latte from the media center, I headed to my first t-shirt and followed the star-studded group of Rory McIrroy, Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler.
My favorite thing about Player Week is always the catch-up chat I have with other people working in golf. This is the first game many of us meet each other throughout the year, and nothing is better than watching the best golfers in the world stroll on the spring of our 70s. There are also a small amount of stage dinners, and I can officially say I am a big Jacksonville fan.
Player Products
I finally went to the Players Championship Fan Store on Friday afternoon and I can confidently say they have the best merchandise from any PGA Tour event. It’s always been good, but I found myself absolutely wanting everything they have to offer. I didn’t exaggerate when I said that every brand eliminated it from the park. Let’s take a look at the Jacksonville-based company La Favre’s debut this week, which he must offer.
Guys, I think we might be in the golden age commodity of golf tournament. Back in my time (see: Five years ago, when I first started a golf trip), it was rare to find clothes I was proud to wear on the golf course in a professional store or fan shop. Collar shirt and quarter zipper? Absolutely! But once you graduate from the SEC fraternity, you really won’t wear anything. Now it’s the exact opposite. The Player Champions Fan Store is more like a streetwear store than a golf shop, and that’s exactly what modern golf fans need. Provide props to the player and all of his companions to absolutely crush it.
Generation Z’s PGA Tour Takeover
Gen-Z officially took over the PGA Tour, proof of the 36-hole rankings of the Players Championship. Akshay Bhatia and Min Woo Lee entered the weekend with 11 par, which was the perfect representation of athletes born in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Min Woo Lee (T1) has his first career 36-hole lead/co-leader when seeking his first PGA Tour victory in Game 55.

Let’s take a look at their social media presence.
Lee probably has the best Instagram content in any PGA Tour player, and Bhatia has been speaking out in hopes of increasing his YouTube audience. Can they be the catalyst for golf mergers? No, not that. The people who bring Gen-Z YouTube golf fans and PGA Tour fans together. Only time will prove it.
Healthy Moments
The Player Championship has more than just some really good golf balls this week. There are also some very good, very healthy interactions between professional fans and golf fans. I saw the kids jump for joy after they had five careers on the court, screaming excitedly after the caddies threw a golf ball and sprinted to show their newly signed hats to their parents. The PGA Tour social team shared some particularly special moments between players and fans this week, and I encourage you to check them out below.
A connection that will make you smile.
