The PGA Tour-PIF “Ununification” meeting was initiated by President Donald Trump and held at the White House on Thursday, leading to more speculation that some long-awaited deal could soon appear. No matter how often you have made a deal based on what you have heard and learned over the past few months, what will the future of professional golf for men look like? A tour? Two working with each other? What about the team components? What is your best prediction?
Jessica Marksbury, Senior Editor (@jess_marksbury): My best guess is that we will see the creation of a series of new matches that will be distinguished from the PGA Tour and LIV but will be open to players from both leagues – a substantial investment from PIF. Obviously, both sides want to see the world’s best players compete against each other more than four times a year and adding games instead of fusing two tours together seems to be the most logical direction. As far as we know, LIV will not go anywhere, so this will allow both leagues to continue to exist independently while still “unifying” the world’s top players.
Josh Sens, Senior Writer (@Joshsens): Agree, Jesse. Liv doesn’t seem to go anywhere. I see both circuits continue in their parallel universe, with some sort of limited event world tour more frequently than the four big guns we see in the Grand Slam now. From the side note, whatever happens, I would like to see the likes of Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka on the opposite team in this year’s Ryder Cup.
Alan Bastable, executive editing (@alan_bastable): What Pro Golf needs: other travel. But yes… my two wise colleagues outlined what certain versions of what seemed to be the most likely situation because what options were there? It’s hard to understand the contractor you own Carte Blanche Privileges in PGA Tour, PGA Tour Stars Moonlight is equally difficult during LIV events; the LIV model does not support drops, or at least tours the current construct. No matter what happens, President Trump’s courses may continue to be part of the equation. Why is he still involved so much?
Brian Campbell wins the Mexican Open, defeating rookie Aldrich on the second hole in the playoffs after Campbell drives off the trees from the boundaries Potgieter), he still made birds. What impressed you with Campbell’s first Tour champion?
Maxbury: Whenever a player wins the playoffs, it usually shows some serious courage. Campbell is no exception. But I tend to surpass his performance this week until his journey over the past 10 years, grinding on Korn Ferry Tour. He showed some serious courage to simply get a trip card for this year and now he has won his first PGA Tour title. I love stories like this – his appearance is like the beginning.
Sens: First, it was after a long and long period of time in the wilderness, trying to recover his lost travel card. But this week he also paired up with a kid in the past two rounds, who hit it for about 40 yards. He could have easily gotten rid of his game to keep up with his game. But he remained patient. I don’t think anyone would call this round a beautiful one, but grinding shouldn’t be pretty.
Riding skills: I was impressed by how Campbell managed his nerves. On Sunday night, he admitted that he felt like he was throwing away most of the time, perhaps never more noticeable jitter than the second playoff hole, and he cut the tee into the tree. But instead of letting that little chaos go away, he took advantage of a long rest, but still became a bird. Cool stuff. How much does victory mean to him and his wife Kelsi? Her tears said everything.
Only 20 years old, Potgieter has become almost one of the youngest champions in Tour history, after he became the youngest champion in Korn Ferry Tour history last season. How do you think of his week, is he the best young prospect in the game?
Maxbury: Is it me, or does it seem like there is a new young gun to discuss every week? We got Blades Brown to play his first PGA Tour on Friday at 17, with Ludvig Aberg ranked fourth in the world at just 25, Nick Dunlap Dunlap and Akshay Bhatia won two wins at the age of 21 and 23 respectively. And, don’t forget 21-year-old Luke Clanton! Given the batting ability we’ve witnessed this week, I certainly hope Potgieter will name himself in a similar way. However, the “Best Young Prospects” competition has a pretty competitive field.
Sens: He impressed this week by combining his last show at the farmer show. But if there are any signs of Balky Chipping today, his short game still needs Polish. I’m with Jesse. He is obviously a huge talent, but I don’t know how you can pick out the best among such a thick crowd.
Left: Is 25 years old still considered “young” in the PGA Tour? If so, you won’t find a better BYP (Best Young People) than Luddy Aberg. However, Potgieter is the real deal. I like what he said about learning how to play under Sunday pressure and again this week under Sunday pressure. The only way to experience it and improve it is to get yourself in it.
Our golf travel experts Simon Holt and Josh Sens recently broke the best golf course logo on our destination golf podcast, which is truly a controversial topic . What do you like the most?
Maxbury: What an interesting question! I have a clear 1: Maidstone Club in East Hampton. The whale logo is traditional, quaint and cool. For me, the respectable mention is Baltonian, winged feet and pebbled beach hay – the sea lion holding the flagpole is excellent.

Sens: I prefer Pasatiempo – a guy in the bones, playing sn under the tree. This is unusual. and play. It captures the leisurely air of Santa Cruz and the chilling atmosphere on the route. One of the rare elite Mackenzie courses that allow anyone to participate in the competition.
Layer: The Stanwich Witch hanging out on the flagpole has always been one of my favorites. I also appreciate the simplicity of the dune logo: a “S” and “H” are welded together, similar to the cattle brand.
Over the past week, two major sports leagues have been praised (NHL) and criticized (NBA) for handling their respective All-Star weekends. (Or, in the NHL case, an All-Star Game against 4 countries.) Why doesn’t Pro Golf have its own “All-Star Weekend”? And, just for entertainment, what would a person look like?
Maxbury: I drifted together on the DP World Tour from the three challenges of the old Wendy and the current Scandinavians. How does a 60-player field (from the top 20 of LPGA, PGA Tour and PGA Tour Championship) participate in individual competitions with appropriate T-shirts in the same course? They will play 36 holes in two days to determine an All-Star Championship!
Sens: Isn’t that stupid season? Golf already has a lot of extra activities, like the All-Star game – many very talented athletes have no interest – I’m not sure it needs another one. But if we were to go that route, I always wanted to participate in a professional event where at a critical moment, in a round, players could choose a random audience from the crowd to impress the opposition. Talk about putting down the hammer.
Riding skills: I will be in mid-season skills competitions featuring the best male and female players. In the boundaries of long-term driving competitions and more, less thinking can determine excellence in bunker games, throwing in and iron shots from a specific yardage. I’ve also been fascinated by who is the fastest golfer, and I’m not talking about swing speed. Go all out and do a 50-yard dash.
