Kamala Harris posts photos from Jimmy Carter’s funeral with clear repulsion; Internet reaction
A photo shared by Vice President Kamala Harris at Jimmy Carter’s funeral has gained attention for excluding a certain predecessor and incoming president.
While President-elect Donald Trump attended the funeral in Washington, D.C., on Thursday along with four other living presidents, he did not assume Harris’ post. Pictures show Harris, President Joe Biden and former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama placing their hands over their hearts during the ceremony.
Neither Trump nor incoming first lady Melania Trump, who sat next to Obama, appeared in the photo released Saturday.
“President Jimmy Carter loved our country. He lived his faith, served his people, and left the world a better place than he found it,” read a social media caption on the vice president’s official account. “President Carter’s many contributions will echo for generations to come.”
While it’s unclear whether Trump’s exclusion was intentional, fans on Instagram were quick to notice his absence after the two went head-to-head in the 2024 presidential election.
“Best photo crop in a decade,” one comment read.
“I immediately laughed when I saw this picture. I love a cropped photo,” another user wrote.
The Carter Center, founded in 1982 by former president and first lady Rosalynn Carter, also excluded the Trump family from a series of funeral photos shared by X on Thursday.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Harris, Trump and the Carter Center for comment.
