Seventeen-year-old breakthrough star Mirra Andreeva It has always been an early revelation of the season.

Dubai champion Andreeva was not surprised by her success – she was busy keeping it up.

2024 Roland Garros semifinalist Andreeva said all the work she did on the driving range with her coach and former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez Paying off the clearance.

“I wouldn’t say I was really surprised by myself,” Andre said. “I kind of think it will come, but of course I didn’t expect it to happen soon.

Andreeva is a slick pusher of savvy court meaning, with a greater ability than her appearance and can accurately hit her backhand. Working with Coach Conchita, Andreeva tried to improve her transition skills and net play and strengthen her second serve.

Andreeva said she had a direct connection with Martinez.

“We were already amazing in the first game we played together and I felt very comfortable around her,” Andreeva said of Martinez. “I think she told me it was the same for her, so thank God, not just me.

“The atmosphere is always, I feel like we’re both energetic and I know, I feel like we both know how to be energetic, but when we need to calm down and take things seriously.

“Yes, I totally believe in everything about her. I think she knows everything that happened in my life. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but, no, it’s just that. I’m so glad to have her with me.”


Of course, Martinez has one of the best one-handed pieces of her era and a harmful Topspin forehand.

Inspired by coaches and Hall of Fame members Martina Hingisher tennis hero Andreeva said she is working hard to develop the full game.

“I always liked how Martina Hingis played. I’ll see some similarities, I’ll say. “She’s smart, too. I would say she played smartly, and I was as smart as hers.

“I want to know, I want to play smart, but I think the difference is that she is never afraid, you know, comes in and finishes the point, is more aggressive.”

Andreeva, who was quick in the court, said she was learning to use her speed as an offensive weapon and transition to the network.

“Now I’m just starting to learn how to do that,” Andre said, her efforts to improve her online play. “I just, you know, the first game of the year I started playing, and I was trying to force myself online or to work hard, step onto the court.”
