The PGA Tour’s first full event of the new season brings with it a host of players looking to get off to a strong start in 2025.

Last week’s Sentinel field featured only 59 of last season’s top players and winners, while the Sony Open fielded 144 players, many of whom were rookies just starting their PGA Tour careers.

While this week doesn’t feature the massive $20 million purse of last week’s signature event, the high finish could still set the tone before the PGA Tour reduces its roster of exempt players from 125 to 100 at the end of the season.

That’s crucial for guys like Hawaii native Chan Kim, a second-year tour member who made the cut as a PGA Tour member for the first time this week.

“Being the season opener and getting some points right out of the gate, it’s a really big confidence boost,” the 15-year pro said Saturday.

Kim finished the week tied for 53rd after shooting a 68 on Sunday, which will net him $20,388.50. Nothing crazy, but he started the new year on a plus note, heading to the airport to catch a red-eye flight to next week’s American Express.

Here’s the full payout breakdown for this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii. Total funding is $8.7 million.
