Guerrero: Ask for negotiations in extensions below $600mm

Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. No agreement was reached before spring training began. That is the deadline for slugger to apply. When he left the gate Ajar listened to other Toronto offers, Guerrero said last month that he wanted to test free agents.
The four-time All-Star Game provides some details about the negotiations in a Spanish-language interview with ESPN’s Enrique Rojas and Juan Arturo Recio. ESPN also posted a summary of Guerrero’s comments in English. Most notably, he said that his camp’s final offer for Jays was signed in for under $600mm, despite not offering a specific asking price. He objected to the suggestion that he was seeking a deal that rivals the 765mm deal Juan Soto Fixed from the Mets.
Although Guerrero does not seem to pursue an average annual value close to Soto’s $51mm, he does seek one of the largest contracts ever. Guerrero said he is looking for 14 or 15 years. Soto’s 15-year contract is the longest ever. Fernando Tatis Jr. The ink extended for 14 years, but began in his 22-year-old season. Guerrero turns 26 in a few weeks. Even if the extension proposal will acquire his last arbitration year, a deal of at least 39 years old will be concluded for more than 14 years.
Jays participated in the Soto bid. They seem to be one of the teams willing to go over 600mm on superstar outfielders. Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith and Shi Davidi reported shortly after Soto agreed to a deal with the Metropolitan area that Toronto’s last offer fell below 700mm. Some might say they should be willing to make similar investments for Guerrero, but his performance is not quite consistent, which is reflected in the lower asking price.
Guerrero is a career .288/.363/.500 batsman. His second-best season was his second-best season when he edited at .323/.396/.544 and 30 home runs a year ago. Soto’s lifespan is .285/.421/.532 hits line; in a year walk with the Yankees, he hits .288/.419/.569 with 41 long balls. Guerrero said in December that Jays made an offer within 340mm range before the SOTO contract. That would have been cherished by him Rafael Devershis contract renewal with the Red Sox in 2023 was 313.5mm. Devers is a career batsman of .283/.342/.512, and he entered the 26-year-old season at the time. He is the under-average defender in the popular corner when he plays a more valuable position.
It remains to be seen whether the SOTO contract will greatly improve the market for top free agents in the future. The team can think of him as an outlier, a free agent that may only appear once in a few decades. From a net present value perspective, Soto was eliminated in previous precedents. Shohei Ohtani’s The deals are worth approximately 461mm and 438mm, respectively, by Major League Baseball and Players Association. This reflects the huge extension structure. Net modern value still represents the largest contract in the history of the alliance at that time. Soto broke the 300mm record.
Guerrero and Kyle Tucker Free agent class under the title. Tucker appears from a .289/.408/.585 monster and plays the right field. He is a better player in the short term, so to speak, but Guerrero is two years younger. This can bring him the best earning ability in the class, although obviously it depends heavily on their respective platform seasons. Guerrero will make 28.5 mm in the final year of arbitration.
