The 44-year-old Venus, who recently participated in fashion events and promotions in Europe, was asked today if she was playing Indian Wells.
Williams told the crowd that she had no plans to print the well.
The five-time Wimbledon champion said she will be overseas when the French Nationalist Open will be held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden from March 2 to 16.
“No, I don’t play,” Williams said. “In fact, I found the announcement super interesting because I didn’t know, people seemed happy, so I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll pick it, I don’t know.’ Actually not to go.
“I’m going overseas. I won’t [there] …I also have only one player who texts me today, for example, “Can you play doubles?” [But] I didn’t play. “When you did, I found information about wildcards. Just say.
“And I love Indian Well, I would love to be there, if I could take it, I would think, ‘Yes’. But I’ve made a promise.”
