Marcelo Arevalo was named El Salvador’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Marcelo Arevalo received high honors this year. Not only did the 34-year-old climb to No. 1 in the PIF ATP doubles rankings, he was also named El Salvador’s Male Athlete of the Year on Sunday. Arevalo previously won the award in 2022.

“Winning this award means a lot. To be the best athlete of El Salvador in 2024, it is very important. Very happy because it means that my country is very aware of what happened during the year and that I won on the ATP Tour,” Are Vallo said. “Winning a Grand Slam, winning 1,000 Masters games, being No. 1 for the year. During my time here, everyone was very excited about the achievement of being No. 1 in the world. This is a very important moment for El Salvador.”

Arevalo enjoyed an outstanding season with Croatian player Pavic, who won four tour-level titles, highlighted by wins at Roland Garros and Cincinnati. They qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals and reached the championship match at this prestigious year-end event. Arevalo and Pavic won the year-end ATP doubles first place awarded by PIF.

“All entities are very proud and happy that these people have supported my career over the years, and at the end of the day it’s been a team effort,” Arevalo said. “They are a part of this achievement. As I have been so many times before As I said before, no one reaches the top alone. For me, it means a lot to have the support of the entire country, the Minister of Sports and the government of El Salvador.”

The Salvadorean has won 13 tour-level doubles titles and is one win shy of his 200th match win.
