Sony Gives PS Plus Members Extra Five Days Following PlayStation Network Outage

Sony said it’s giving PlayStation Plus subscribers an extra five days of service to make up for a major PS Network outage that began the night of Feb. 7 and lasted about 20 hours into the following day.

Sony suffered a similar outage in October that lasted about 8 hours. The company said in a post on X that the issue was technical.

“Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience,” the post said. “All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional five days of service.”

As of Feb. 10, service appeared to be back to normal. Sony did not immediately respond to an email about further information on the outage.

Gamers who own PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles were among those affected, although any game or service that requires a PlayStation Network login would have also had issues. Last year, Helldivers 2 players protested Sony’s requirement that a PSN login be required to play the PC version of the game. Sony ultimately backed down, removing the requirement, but not before it removed the game from sale in multiple territories. Some gaming sites pointed out that if Sony had continued to require its PSN login, its PC games would have been unplayable as well

The most recent outage affected popular titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Marvel Rivals, but fans of online multiplayer games weren’t the only ones affected. Console owners that have digital copies of games instead of discs said they were unable to have their games verified, making even games meant to be playable offline inaccessible.

The last time PSN was down for so long was in 2011 when a gaming outage turned out to be part of a major hacking incident.
