Elon Musk wants to please his “anti-capitalist” daughter by selling all five of his homes and living frugally. Useless

Elon Musk’s complicated relationship with his eldest daughter Vivian Jenner Wilson has reportedly greatly influenced his recent life choices, including selling his luxury home. Despite his efforts, the move didn’t seem to have the results he had hoped for.

Musk’s relationship with Vivian (née Xavier) took a turn for the worse four or five years ago. As Musk biographer Walter Isaacson said in an interview, Vivian announced in a note that she was changing her name to Musk, writing: “I am changing my name, My name is Jenna now, don’t tell my father.

She later legally changed her name and chose her mother’s maiden name, signaling her desire to distance herself from Musk.

While Musk initially publicly supported her transition, he revealed in his biography of Walter Isaacson that the real pain came from her outright rejection of him. Vivian reportedly espouses anti-capitalist views, hates billionaires, and believes capitalism is theft. Musk’s attempts to connect with her have so far been unsuccessful.

In 2020, Musk boldly announced on X that he would sell almost all his properties, including his house, saying, “Property will only weigh you down.” According to Business Insider, he owned a massive real estate portfolio at the time, including:

  • He purchased a $17 million mansion in Bel Air in 2012, complete with a swimming pool, tennis court and stunning landscaping.

  • Gene Wilder’s former home was purchased for $6.75 million and later sold to Wilder’s nephew for $7 million. After a recent foreclosure, it was listed for $9.5 million.

  • He purchased several other properties in Bel Air for $24 million, $20 million, $4.3 million and $4.2 million. In 2020, they were listed for a total of $62.5 million and sold six months later.

  • A 16,000-square-foot mansion in the Bay Area was purchased for $23.4 million and sold for $30 million.
