2025 Players: Ranking favorites, competitors, and hopeful people

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida – World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler became the player champion at TPC Sawgrass this week, before becoming the first back-to-back champion in the 50-year history of the 2024 event.
This year, Schefller will hope to join Jack Nicklaus as the second-place three-time champion. The Golden Bear won the players in 1974, 1976 and 1978.
A year ago, Scheftler struggled with neck pain early in the second round and was unsure that he could continue playing. He fought in wounds, and halfway through Wyndham Clark was six shots behind.
Scheffler trailed Xander Schauffele’s five after 54 holes, but on that Sunday he won the trophy again, lifting the trophy again with a 64-shot below 64 in the final round. Clark, Schauffele and Brian Harman tried Scheffler on the 72nd hole and forced the playoffs, but all three missed the playoffs.
Scheffler completed 20 points and beat them with a stroke.
