Tatum O’Neal slams dad Ryan O’Neal after

Tatum O’Neal Share her harsh reaction to the will of the late father Ryan O’Neal.
For much of her life, the 61-year-old actress has a well-known turbulent relationship with the actor, who died in 2023 from congestive heart failure. In a recent interview with variety shows, O’Neal revealed that she only learned that Ryan fired her after his death and responded frankly to SNEub.
“Keep it, mother—–” O’Neal said.

Ryan shares Tatum and her brother Griffin O’Neal with his late ex-wife Joanna Moore. He is also the father of his son Patrick O’Neal, 57, who shared with his ex-wife Leigh Taylor-Young and his son Redmond O’Neal, 40, with late actress Farrah Fawcett.
Tatum O’Neal: Drug arrest “rescue” me
O’Neal and Griffin lived with their mother until in 1970, when Moore lost custody of the child after being arrested for DUI. Moore struggled with chronic alcohol and substance abuse and was arrested for driving under the influence. She died of lung cancer in 1997 at the age of 63.
After Moore lost custody of O’Neal and Griffin, they began to live with Ryan. O’Neal became the youngest Oscar winner in history at the age of 10, when she was opposite the Paper Moon in 1973.
However, O’Neal revealed in the first of her two autobiography (Paper Life in 2004) that their relationship became hard after the release of the movie because her father was jealous of her success.
“Things got ugly,” O’Neal told Variety.

O’Neal details Ryan’s violent temper in her memoir, accusing her of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her father, who is also addicted to drugs. O’Neal also revealed that she was later harassed by drug dealers from Ryan’s inner members.
In an interview with Variety, O’Neal said she believes Ryan ruled out her wishes because of her “paper life.”
“The first book I wrote was just an honest book,” she said. “That’s what made him.”
In a 2004 statement to Dateline, Ryan denied allegations O’Neal made against him in “Paper Life” and cited his long-term struggle against drug and alcohol addiction.
“It was a sad day, being told that malicious lies were to be ‘best-selling’,” he said. “As a father, I hope the book was written as her therapy and if it was something she needed to wake up and live with herself every day, then I can only support her recovery process, good, bad and ugly.”
He continued: “Now, I want her to stay awake, so she sees the future as her looming memories of the past.”

In “Life on Paper,” O’Neal recalls how her relationship with her father worsened after “Paper Moon.” Although Ryan’s performance as Conman Moses prayer won praise from critics, O’Neal’s portrayal of orphan Annie Loggins, the young actress declared a prodigy.
O’Neal claims Ryan hit her after being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The “Love Story” star did not accompany her daughter to the awards ceremony and later admitted that her victory caused internal tension in the family.
“Everyone hates everyone,” Ryan said in a 2009 interview with Vanity Fair.
After winning an Academy Award, O’Neal told Variety that she was asked to play the role of prostitute Iris in Martin Scorsese’s 1976 film Taxi Driver. While talking to the socket, O’Neal remembers Ryan telling her, “No, you can’t,'” because he thinks the part is “a bit naked.”
However, O’Neal shared her point that Ryan’s jealousy might have caused him to stop her from listening to the role, which earned Jodie her first Oscar nomination.
“And I’ve never really recovered,” O’Neal said.

Although O’Neal continued to star in critical and commercially successful films Bad News Bear, International Velvet and Little Darling, her career began to stagnate as a teenager.
O’Neal explained that her confidence in her acting abilities began to wither under Ryan’s criticism.

At that time, O’Neal began to fight openly with addiction. She had previously shared that she was six years old and was drinking for the first time at her mother’s house and claimed that Ryan introduced the drugs to her and her brother.
The actress’s reputation and hard lifestyle have made her a fixture for the tabloids, with performance opportunities increasingly declining. In 1984, she embarked on a highly publicized and troubled romance with tennis star John McEnroe, who also had addiction problems. The couple shared that the end of their son Kevin, 38, Sean, 37, and daughter Emily, 33, ended in 1986. However, their marriage ended in 1994 with a painful divorce.
After the divorce, O’Neal tried to make a comeback, but her career was seriously addicted to heroin. As she continues to fight addiction, O’Neill acts occasionally, mainly playing smaller parts in the movie and making appearances on TV shows.

O’Neal and Ryan were alienated for nearly 20 years until they settled in 2009 after Fawcett’s death. In 2011, the two starred in their own reality series, Ryan and Tatum: The O’Neals, a failed attempt to repair their relationship.
In May 2020, O’Neal almost died from a stroke she suffered after overdose of painkillers, opioids and morphine. After the stroke, O’Neal was hospitalized in a coma for six weeks, while she continued to have aphasia, which affected her ability to speak, read and write.
In an interview with Variety, O’Neal admitted that she didn’t know if she wanted to survive a stroke, even for the kids.

“I love them so much, but I’ve given a lot of stuff,” she said. “Part of me just doesn’t want to do that, you know?”
But O’Neal told Variety that she wanted to leave her own habit of self-destruction after her near-death experience.
“Now I don’t want to hurt myself,” O’Neal said. “Now I don’t want to take drugs anymore-I really don’t.”

Despite her great strides in rehabilitation for stroke, O’Neal suffered memory problems and chronic pain. She told Variety that she had recently undergone back surgery and was learning how to read it again.
However, O’Neal continued to struggle for sobriety, telling Variety that she relapsed in the U.S. presidential election when she realized President Donald Trump would win.
“I was with my gay friends and it was like, ‘I’m going to have a glass of wine – maybe two.’ “And I was like, ‘Okay, damn: I’m sober one day. ‘”

O’Neal revealed that she had seen Ryan three times before her death. Shortly before Ryan’s death, she visited her father at his home in Malibu, who was destroyed in the Palisades fire in January.
The actress told Variety that when Ryan offered drugs during that visit, she refused, recalling, “I knew he was drinking and smoking a lot of pots and he was like, ‘Here, take medicine’,” she said. “I was like, ‘No, thank you.'”
But O’Neal’s son Kevin assisted his mother’s son in a variety show interview, saying, “Although she drank that day.

Although O’Neal is struggling financially and inherits a portion of Ryan’s property that will help her medical and rehabilitation bill, the actress said she has found a new sense of freedom since her father’s death.
Kevin shared his point of view that O’Neal is now “let go of how much space he takes up in his life,” noting that “she is defined as someone abused by Ryan.”
Kevin said to his mother, “Not much desire, ‘I can do great things.’ “And I think you can do well today. ”
Kevin also revealed that he is developing a documentary project about his mother, which he hopes will generate income to pay for some of her medical expenses.

“As she changes, I think opportunities have started to change for her,” McEnroe said. “As she starts to see the kindness of the people and the world, more things are on our way.
“Yes, just Tatum! Nothing is my father.” She interrupted.
“Just Tatum is enough,” Kevin told her.
When asked if she felt she was “just getting there,” O’Neal replied, “Yes!”
She added: “Even better than almost enough.”
