One person dead in multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — One person is dead and another is in serious condition following a multi-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 80 near 7200 West.

Lt. Cameron Rowden of the Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that a total of five vehicles were involved in the incident. Traffic was slow in the area at the time of the incident due to two separate crashes on the west side.

When a pickup truck chased a passenger car, two of the five vehicles involved burst into flames, triggering a chain-reaction-style crash involving the other three vehicles.

The driver of the bus, a 47-year-old Tooele man, died at the scene and the driver of the pickup truck, a 33-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

I-80 westbound is currently closed at 7200 West and drivers will be rerouted to the 7200 West off-ramp. The closure is expected to last another two to three hours as crews continue to investigate.
