Outlander season six has been a long time coming for fans, with the gap between seasons five and six being so long it has become known as ‘droughtlander’. However, the wait is almost over, as Starz has promised an early 2022 premiere date. Express.co.uk has all the details on where to watch season six.
Where can I watch Outlander season 6?
Outlander season five aired its last episode in May 2020, giving fans nearly a two-year wait for the show to come back.
After having suffered from delays and setbacks caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Outlander season six is almost here.
While a specific release date has not been revealed, it will be coming in early 2022, with some reports indicating a February debut.
Once again, the show will be available to watch on Starz and the Starz app upon its premiere in the USA.
Created by Starz, the broadcaster is unfortunately not available for fans in the UK, but that doesn’t mean the show is hard to find.
Amazon Prime video has traditionally released Outlander in the UK, with all five seasons available to stream now.
Season six looks to be no different, with episodes likely to drop weekly, as previous seasons have done.
While unconfirmed, the Amazon Prime release date will most likely be the same as in the USA or one day behind.
For viewers without Amazon Prime, the service is available for £7.99 per month or £79 annually, with a 30-day free trial.
The sixth season will be taking inspiration from Diana Gabaldon’s sixth novel, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
This story brings Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) to the years leading up to the Revolutionary War.
Times are hard in Fraser’s Ridge, as the impending war is putting a strain on everyone in the town.
Starz has not released an official trailer, though there have been a number of stills released giving fans a clue of what to expect.
The most telling image concerns Fergus (Cesar Domboy) holding a baby in a river.
This moment could be coming straight from the pages of the sixth novel, with the dark subplot surrounding Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger’s (Richard Rankin) baby.
The show has traditionally stayed very close to the source material, in part due to Gabaldon working with the writers of the show.
However, there has been a number of diversions from the original plot, meaning anything is possible for season six.
At eight episodes long, season six is set to be the shortest in the show’s history, but star Sam Heughan has promised it will still be an explosive journey.
Speaking to Just the Facts, Heughan explained: “I’m really pleased with this season, it feels almost like early western vibe.
“And, you know, we’re building to the War of Independence.
“Obviously, there’s time travel as well and all the other elements. It feels like a small, but mighty season.”
Outlander season six will be available to watch in early 2022 on Stars in the USA and Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
