COMEDIAN Peter Kay has become a household name after he burst into the spotlight back in the mid-nineties.
The Bolton-born star is now back with a brand new tour, but in 2017 he shocked fans when he suddenly took himself away from public life.
What happened to Peter Kay?
Back in 2017, and after eight years away from the stage, Peter Kay announced he was coming back with another live tour.
The comedian said he would be "returning to his most successful hobby – stand-up".
However, on December 13, 2017, he announced all the dates had been cancelled.
In a statement on Twitter, he wrote: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

"I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again, I’m very sorry."
No other reason was given as to what the "family circumstances" were.

Fans had speculated he had given up comedy for good as he was away from the spotlight for so long.
However, in 2022, he made a full return to the spotlight with several public appearances.
Meanwhile, the comedian still makes money when he's not performing.
In October 2021, The Sun revealed he made £2.7m a year – despite taking a step back from fame at the time.
Peter has a staggering net worth of £43M.
When is Peter Kay back on tour?
On November 6, 2022 Peter announced his return to stand-up comedy with his first live tour in 12 years – starting December 2022.
The Arena tour, called Better Late Than Never, will kick off on December 2, 2022 and end on August 11, 2022.
It is his first live tour since 2010, when he scored the Guinness World Record for the biggest selling run of all time, playing to more than 1.2 million people.
Tickets go on sale November 12, 2022 and can be bought on Peter's website, where there is a full list of venues and dates.
What has Peter said about his hiatus?
Peter released a statement to confirm he was heading back out on tour.
Speaking about his return he told fans: "It's good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there's ever a time people need a laugh it's now.
