The hit AMC zombie apocalypse series, made its 10th and final return and viewers were eagerly awaiting the return of Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln).
However, after sharing a special guest would be appearing on The Walking Dead spin-off, Talking Dead, creator Scott M. Gimple was forced to apologise to fans with a disappointing update.

This weekend is set to major for fans of The Walking Dead universe as Fear the Walking Dead is approaching its mid-season finale and its other spin-off, The Walking Dead: World Beyond is coming to end.

On Thursday, the shows live talk show announced there would be a surprise guest joining the line-up of stars.

Creator, Scott took to Twitter to share the news and tweeted: “This will be BIG,” which led excited fans to anticipate which actor would be the surprise guest.

After tons of fans responded with guesses and shared hopes of Rick making his long-awaited comeback, Scott was forced to apologise.

He tweeted: “I see this blew up a lil bit. It’s big, but it’s not about Rick Grimes.

“We’re sorry some things are taking a while — this announcement is something, though, that’s been a long time coming.”

Scott followed it up with: “THANK YOU for being with us on this journey; every day all around the country (& the world!) we endeavour to make stuff to thrill you, to intrigue you, to make you feel — we’re working hard not to let you down.

“If you dig the TWDU, Sunday’s news will be massive and momentous,” he concluded.

However, some fans were fed up with waiting and expressed their frustration in his comments.

The_Best_Dixon criticized: “It’s honestly just unacceptable at this point. I mean how long do we have to wait to get simple basic news. We literally know NOTHING about the rick movie/movies.”

While itswt7v fumed: “No one fucking cares Scott, it’s probably gonna be another spin-off no one asked for! Just give us something bro it’s been 3 fucking years!!!!!!”

“Scott, I just wanna tell you that it’s been 3 years and that there can’t be anything bigger than Rick? Nothing can be bigger than Rick. Disappointed,“ stated yeahmergo.

Whereas Pottsy526 was a bit more understanding and commented: “I think we all appreciate you telling us but man, this just increases the frustration.”

Fans of The Walking Dead have become desperate for a Rick Grimes comeback after he mysteriously disappeared in season nine.

As the leader of the survivors, he quickly became a fan-favourite, so his disappearance was a huge shock for viewers.

In his final episode, Rick was being airlifted to an unknown location, which left his family believing he had died in a horrific explosion.

Following the confirmation of his return, Lincoln said: “I can’t wait. I’m really excited about broadening the scale and scope of the story and finding out where Ricky is.”

“We need to get the first one absolutely right and that’s why it’s taken longer than we anticipated – and obviously with the pandemic,” he added.

After his exit, it was revealed Andrew would return as Rick in a series of movies, however not much has been disclosed since.

With 23 episodes in the total of this final season, there’s still plenty of time for Rick to make his highly anticipated return to screens.
