Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly has been presenting the BBC One programme for almost 20 years. She has co-hosted the show with Claudia Winkleman since 2014 and revealed on the latest episode of Strictly Come Dancing: The Official Podcast Claudia has promised her they “will do a showdown dance”. Tess teased their dance-off might happen this weekend, but admitted she was not sure she could trust Claudia with lifts.

During the podcast episode, hosted by former finalist Joe Sugg and producer Kim Winston, a listener was desperate to know who was the best dancer out of Tess and Claudia.

Tess, who was being interviewed by Joe, replied: “Do you know what, Claud keeps promising me that we will do a showdown dance one year.

“I mean it might appear at Blackpool, who knows!”

“But until then we will never know,” she added. “As much as I do love Claud I’m not sure I trust her to lift me.”

Tess, who has hosted the ballroom dancing show for the past 18 years, was also asked to pick her favourite series of Strictly Come Dancing.

She said: “That’s such a hard one because every year I think, ‘Wow, how are we going to top this, we are never going to do it?’

“Then somehow the next series just gets better.”

She said a highlight for her was Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice’s silent dance routine in the 2021 series which they were given a BAFTA for.

“It was just amazing,” Tess said. “And then the year before with Bill Bailey and Rapper’s Delight for me, that was a [top] moment.

“That was my favourite tune and I was like, ‘Go Bill.'”

The presenter also reflected on how her two daughters have grown up with the show.

“It’s unbelievable, my girls are 18 and 13 now and I was pregnant with each one during the show,” Tess revealed.

Tess and her husband Vernon Kay’s two children are called Phoebe and Amber.

“It’s amazing, [Phoebe] is like a visual reference of how long we have been on air, it’s her whole lifetime,” she quipped.

The competition is continuing to heat up as the contestants prepare to dance their socks off in the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom this Saturday.

Just eight couples remain in the competition after Tony Adams and his partner Katya Jones withdrew from the series following an injury last weekend.

Fleur East and Vito Coppola will be dancing a Couple’s Choice to a Destiny’s Child Megamix by Destiny’s Child while Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystał will dance the American Smooth to New York, New York’ by Frank Sinatra.

Will Mellor and Nancy Xu will dance the Samba to I Go To Rio by Hugh Jackman, and Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe will perform the American Smooth to You’re My World by Cilla Black.
