Welsh dancer Amy Dowden and EastEnders actor James Bye were the latest couple to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing. They ended up in the dreaded dance-off with Fleur East and Vito Coppola, but the judges decided to send the actor home. Amy, 32, was reduced to tears as James, 38, thanked her for being “what Strictly is all about” during a touching moment on Monday’s instalment of It Takes Two.

James and Amy danced the Charleston to Bumble Bee by LaVern Baker for Halloween Week on Saturday night.

However, the couple felt the sting when they landed at the bottom of the leaderboard with just 27 points.

James and Amy bowed out of the competition gracefully when the judges chose to save Fleur but emotions were still raw on It Takes Two when they were interviewed by host Rylan Clark.

After a montage of their best moments was played to BBC Two viewers, James told Rylan he wanted to say something about Amy, who was sitting next to him.

“I’ve had such an amazing time but Amy is what Strictly is all about,” he began.

“I have never worked with anyone in any line of work I have done who loves their job as much as Amy does – she is absolutely obsessed with this show.

“Honestly, she gives this show every part of her body, she will be in my life forever, and she is amazing.

“This is what Strictly is all about and they are lucky to have her.”

Viewers flocked to Twitter to comment on James and Amy’s partnership, with Matty penning: “Jame’s speech for Amy was just lovely.”

Debbie Blackman penned: “@jimmybye and @dowden_amy didn’t deserve to be eliminated. They were so good and fun and James was improving every week.”

Roz Laws added: “Lovely words from James about Amy on #ittakestwo. She seems like a genuinely gorgeous person.”

Amanda said: “Yes James! What he said about Amy is so true, she is everything #Strictly is about.”

Halloween Week’s leaderboard had some new contestants at the top as comedian Ellie Taylor and her partner Johannes Radebe dazzled the judging panel.

They performed their Couple’s Choice with a Hocus Pocus theme, with the judges telling the 38-year-old it was her best dance to date.

She was joint-top of the leaderboard along with DJ Tyler West and his partner Dianne Buswell.

They performed a Beetle Juice-inspired Cha Cha Cha which earned them an impressive 35 points out of 40.

Newest judge Anton Du Beke told viewers it was the best Cha Cha he’d ever seen on the show.

BBC bosses have decided to move Strictly’s quarter-final and semi-final to Friday nights instead of Saturdays.

A Strictly spokesperson said: “Strictly Come Dancing will continue to bring glitter, glamour and glorious dancing to homes across the nation throughout the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“The quarter-final of Strictly Come Dancing will now air live on Friday 2nd December and the semi-final will now air live on Sunday 11th December on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
