STRICTLY bosses are hoping to kick-start the new series by signing former Lioness Alex Scott.
The producers want to capitalise on the popularity of the Women’s World Cup.
If Alex, 34, agrees she will be the first women’s footballer to take part in the dance show.
On Monday the Match of the Day and Sun pundit dropped a hint by revealing she is a huge fan of Strictly. She said: “It’s no secret that I love dancing and music — everyone’s known for years and years that it’s the one show I’d really love to do. So if they come knocking, then definitely.”
And on Monday night a TV insider said producers had been trying to tempt the former England and Arsenal star since she launched her broadcasting career in 2017.
The source added: “We really think 2019 is her year — especially given the success of the Lionesses.”
Millions of TV viewers are due to watch the England women’s team take on the US in Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final.
Former full-back Alex has already won Bear Grylls’ ITV show Mission Survive in 2016.
Other footie aces to have starred on BBC1’s Strictly include John Barnes, Peter Schmeichel and Peter Shilton.
Last month The Sun revealed that former Corrie star Catherine Tyldesley, 35, and rowing legend James Cracknell, 47, are in talks to join this autumn’s series.
Virgin Radio host Chris Evans, 53, has already signed up.
