Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) was left overjoyed and emotional in EastEnders tonight (October 15), as she learned that the jury had found her not guilty.
Whitney feared spending her life behind bars, and with a murder charge hanging over her, her future was looking bleak.
However, Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) was determined to help, and put together a strong defence — delivering an incredibly compelling closing statement.
Viewers had to wait almost 48 hours to find out whether or not Whitney would be going to prison, as Tuesday’s episode (October 13) indicated that the jury had reached a verdict.
In a rather heart-warming moment, tonight’s episode opened with the outcome of the trial, as the jury revealed that they’d found Whitney not guilty.
The woman in question rejoiced at the decision — as did Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), who support her from the gallery.
They decided to head to the Queen Vic to celebrate afterwards, but Gray decided against doing so, referring to himself as ‘gutless’, which left Whitney’s interest is piqued.
What’s next for Whitney remains to be seen, but the young woman’s future certainly seems a lot brighter than it did several episodes ago!
EastEnders continues Friday October 16 at 8:30pm on BBC One.
