Ever since Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) allowed unhinged nanny Jade Rowan (Lottie Henshall) into the family’s lives, Coronation Street fans have been rightly concerned that she was going to cause mayhem. And as she got close to Hope and turned her against Fiz while simultaneously convincing professionals that the child may be being mistreated, Fiz was horrified to learn that she is the daughter of John Stape.
Since then, Fiz and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) faced losing Hope and Hope is determined that she wants to be with her half-sister. After Fiz snapped at manipulative Jade and knocked her to the ground with a chopping board, almost killing her, Jade was given the upper hand and has warned Fiz that if she can’t have access to Hope then she is going to go to the police.
As Fiz and Tyrone sadly pore over an agreement drawn up, they realise that they have no choice and Jade has them over a barrel. Worried they are doing the wrong thing, they tentatively tell a delighted Hope that she is going to be spending time with Jade now and again.
Hope is jubilant as Tyrone takes her to see Jade, who is going to take her to the cinema and Hope returns, having had a great time. Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) is playing shops with Ruby and petulant Hope calls them boring and tells a gutted Fiz that she had a much better time with Jade and wishes she could always stay with her.
As Fiz and Tyrone worry that Jade will continue to break their bond with Hope, they are powerless over what to do next as Hope’s reliance on Jade continues to strengthen.
Is Jade about to get the last laugh – and will she pledge to take Hope away from the family for good? Or will Fiz put her foot down and declare that enough is enough and play Jade at her own game?
One to watch: Wednesday 12 February at 7:30pm on ITV.
