Carla Connor (Alison King) was instrumental in helping Roy Cropper (David Neilson) connect with his long-lost brother Richard in Coronation Street, but there’s sad times ahead for the café owner, as Richard passes away in the coming episodes — and Carla later puts her foot in it where his niece Nina (Mollie Gallagher) is concerned.
With a new carer due to start at Richard’s, Roy heads round to be there for the big day. He reassures Nina that it’s okay for her to go off to college, confirming that he’ll remain there for the new arrival. However, he later gets a phone call from Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw) who informs him there’s a problem with the freezer at the café.
Richard insists that Roy go and check it out and that he’ll be fine on his own, and thus he heads off. However, once arriving at the café, he phones his brother — and he’s upset to discover the carer hasn’t arrived.
Richard assures him once more that he’ll be fine on his own, but tragedy strikes after he hangs up the call, as he loses his balance and falls.
While he keeps shtum about the fall during a subsequent phone call, Richard passes away, and Roy finds him out cold on the floor, before ringing for an ambulance. The paramedics attempt to revive him, but he’s soon pronounced dead — and Nina is devastated when she arrives to find out what’s happened.
Roy refuses to take no for an answer and insists that Nina come stay with him. While on their own, he relays to Carla how he left his brother for a short while prior to the accident, and later, Carla accidentally reveals this information to Nina — who’s furious as a result.
Nina informs Roy that she’ll never forgive him and storms out.
Is this the end of Roy’s relationship with his niece before it’s even begun?
