After months of waiting, the USA Network’s popular crime drama Queen of the South is finally back on screens. Season five kicked things off with a bang, and viewers have so far singled out cartel boss Boaz Jimenez (played by Joseph T. Campos) as the main player in the ongoing war against Judge Lafayette (David Andrews).
Returning character Boaz Jimenez appeared to be planning a move against the Judge in the first episode of Queen of the South season five.
Following extensive production delays during the worst part of the coronavirus pandemic last year, the explosive crime drama is finally back on screens.
Queenpin Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga) immediately took control in the riveting premiere, ‘Fantasmas’.
When the series last left off, Teresa suffered a blow at the hands of the Judge, who orchestrated the murder of her godson, Tony Parra (Julian Silva).
As the action gets underway once again, the Judge is attempting to pass of the suicide of his son, Davis (Derek Evans), as murder.
Meanwhile, fans are unsure whether to trust cartel leader Boaz after he made his return from Miami at the top of the new season.
Boaz is clearly out for blood this time round, as the Judge was indirectly responsible for the death of his cousin, Javier (Alfonso Herrera).
Still angry at Teresa for her decision to sacrifice his cousin, Boaz may decide to violate her orders and formulate his own strike against her biggest enemy in New Orleans.
Writer for the series Benjamin Lobato came close to confirming as much when he tweeted out once the new episode had aired.
He posted: “Boaz is a complicated cat. To kill or not to kill. To obey the Queen or… stay tuned!”
Lobato accompanied the tweet with an intriguing fire emoji, teasing the chaos still to come in the final instalment.
Moreover, the closing moments of ‘Fantasmas’ featured a tense exchange between Boaz and the Judge, who discuss Davis’ death over a drink.

Seeming to formulate a plan in his mind, Boaz confirms he has revenge on the mind, though doesn’t reveal against whom he’s set his sights.
With an action-packed final battle in store for Queen of the South’s fifth and final season, fans have tipped Boaz to take down the Judge whilst Teresa deals with her problems with the Russians.
As the brand new episode rolled out on Wednesday night, fans took to social media to voice their predictions for the rest of the season.
One viewer said: “Uh oh Boaz found the Judge this isn’t going to be good.”
Another added: “Lafayette has really met his match in Boaz. He needs someone who can match his crazy to really get the message.”
And a third weighed in: “Boaz looks like he could kill the Judge at any time.”
Synopses for the new season have confirmed Lafayette will survive until at least the third episode of Teresa’s final journey.
Still, Boaz already has the Judge in his sights, and fans are hoping it’s only a matter of time before someone on Teresa’s team takes him out for good.
Queen of the South season 5 continues Wednesday, April 14 on USA Network.
