Outlander fans were left delighted when a new teaser video released by Starz confirmed production has started on the show. During the clip, it was also revealed what the opening episode of the new season will be called. Here’s everything you need to know about this and what it could mean.

What does the Outlander season 6, episode 1 title mean?

In a new video to mark the beginning of production, Starz confirmed the title of the opening episode for season six.

Viewers will have got a glimpse of this at the end of the video where it can be seen as Echoes in the script.

Not much more is confirmed other than it has been written by Matthew B Roberts.

However, some might be wondering if this could tease anything about the plot of the upcoming series.

The title is most likely in reference to the fact it is based on Diana Gabaldon’s seventh novel, entitled An Echo in the Bone.

Gabaldon has not explicitly confirmed what the meaning of the title is in the past.

However, she has alluded how it is to do with family and lineage.

On her website, she wrote about how the UK cover of the book reflects this.

Gabaldon explained: “The UK publisher chose to put a skeletal leaf on the cover.

“I liked this one; the leaf being a poetic metaphor for the ‘echoes’ of familial relationships and events that delicately vein the book.”

This makes a lot of sense as fans of the series will know the show is all about following the Frasers through generations and across time periods.

Although, at the moment it seems more will only be revealed about its meaning when the show begins.

Not much else was confirmed in the video other than a glimpse of some of the sets and some costumes.

This included Fraser’s Ridge, which viewers will be familiar with from previous seasons.

To mark the start of production, some of the show’s actors also posted on their social media accounts.

Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan posted an image of him and Caitriona Balfe on set.

He wrote on Instagram: “We’re BACK!! @Outlander_starz season six is shooting!

“Feel very fortunate to be working right now, production are ensuring everyone is safe and protected. Now just need to deal with the snow….”

There is no release date confirmed for the new series yet on Starz.

However, viewers will be hoping it could be released by the end of 2021 or in early 2022.

Outlander seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
