NCIS: Hawaii star Jason Antoon has detailed the arduous task of fitting into a $130,000 spacesuit for Ernie Malik’s spotlight episode this week.
On Monday’s instalment, Cabin Fever, Malik heads undercover when an astronaut is murdered in a NASA Mars simulation.
As the only member of the team with clearance into the habitat, Malik dons a spare suit which Antoon revealed was trickier than it looked.
“First of all, that suit…? I made a behind-the-scenes video of me putting on the suit, because I’m a stocky guy, as my wife would put it,” he shared.
“And those suits are extremely difficult to get on. I barely got on the top!”
Antoon went on to reveal the suits rented for the series already had a history of causing trouble for actors.
In fact, this particular suit was used for For All Mankind or a Ron Howard movie, the star claimed, and one of the actors had to be fired as they couldn’t fit into the astronaut costume after four weeks of filming.
Thankfully, Antoon eventually managed to work himself into the suit after a challenging costume fitting which he shared on social media.
He told TV Line: “If you go to my Twitter and my Instagram, you can see how I have to contort my entire body to put the whole thing on – just to wear it for, like, two seconds!”

In his behind-the-scenes video, Antoon swears and gasps in pain as he forces himself into the two bulky sections of the screen-accurate astronaut suit.
After his challenging time in the field, Malik will be back behind the computer for the rest of the season whilst Jane Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey) handles dangerous missions around the island.
The penultimate episode of season two, Past Duo, will kick off the two-part season finale with Tennant going rogue to dig up her past.
A synopsis reads: “The discovery of a dead former MI6 agent uncovers secrets from Tennant’s past, forcing her to go to extreme lengths to track down the responsible party.”
The latest trailer reveals Tennant with blood on her hands at the crime scene and plenty of action to wrap up this year’s season.
Agents Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami), Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson), Jesse Boone (Noah Mills) and Kai Holman (Alex Tarrant) are also along for the ride.
Plus, there’s more NCIS to look forward to as both NCIS: Hawaii and the flagship drama have been renewed through 2024.
NCIS Hawaii season 2 continues Mondays on CBS in the USA and is available to stream on Disney+ in the UK.
