Lorraine Kelly vented her frustrations on today’s Good Morning Britain and called for the government to ‘do the right thing’ and axe Christmas amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The presenter ranted to Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid after Defence Secretary Ben Wallace had joined the programme to say the consequences of gathering this festive season could be ‘severe’ if the correct measures aren’t taken.
His comments comes after reports claimed that if restrictions are eased for five days across Christmas, the country may be forced into another month of lockdown in January.
Furious Lorraine demanded that the holiday is cancelled altogether.
‘Just say it,’ Lorraine said. ‘I’m getting so frustrated about this and I know how important Christmas is, I really do. But for goodness sake, will we stop all this wooliness and trying to be nice and wanting to be loved and wanting to be liked.
‘The leaders who are in charge – say what is right for the country and what is going to save lives.’
She continued: ‘I mean, what is more important, having a dinner and being with your family or keeping everybody safe?
‘It’s a no brainer so stop waffling about and say it as it is, that’s it, it’s gone. Sorry.
‘You have to be with a smaller amount of people this year, that’s going to be hard, but it means in the New Year, we’ll all get over this quicker.’
Viewers applauded Lorraine for her comments, with many agreeing with her sentiments on Twitter.
‘Yes Lorraine is right, the lives of others has to be more important than Xmas,’ wrote one. ‘Of course it will be hard not having a family Xmas but the consequences will or could be devastating.’
‘Christmas can be celebrated another time . Lorraine is so right!’ added another.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
