Kevin Clifton quit Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 after seven years and his penultimate season as a professional on the show saw him lift the coveted Glitterball Trophy with Stacey Dooley. The pair subsequently began a romance and have been in a relationship ever since. However, Channel 4’s Steph McGovern couldn’t resist teasing Kevin on his “reputation” after separating from his third wife Karen Hauer in 2018.

Kevin married his dance partner Anna Melnikova aged 20 before going on to marry professional ballet dancer Clare Craze.

They split in 2010 and Kevin married his third wife Strictly’s Karen in 2015.

Steph began: “I’m going to ask you one more that’s going to make you feel even more uncomfortable.

“Have you finally settled down now love because you’ve got a terrible reputation on Strictly?”

“What? It’s an ambush,” the Ballroom and Latin dancer remarked.

“I’m kidding I’m just trying to get the TV drama stuff,” Steph said. “No, I’m going to leave it there don’t worry.”

“Find out by coming to see Burn the Floor,” Kevin joked referring to his stint in the world’s leading Ballroom show.

Packed Lunch presenter and Strictly star Oti Mabuse quizzed her former colleague on what he’s been up to since leaving the BBC show.

Strictly: Kevin Clifton discusses watching show as a fan

“It’s been different, I watch the show obviously, well done by the way I haven’t seen you since,” Kevin said congratulating Oti on her 2020 win with Bill Bailey.

“It was nice to watch it as a fan on the last season because when you’re in it you can’t quite comprehend how many people are watching and how many people are going mad for the show and I thought I was going to be quite nonchalant about it.

“I’m going to leave the show and be quite quiet, I won’t be one of those people that bangs on about it.”

“Then two weeks in I became this crazed obsessed fan,” the dancer continued.

Oti revealed Kevin spent lockdown writing a TV drama and asked the former Strictly star to open up on his new discipline.

“I can’t say too much about it at the moment,” he said. “There are different things happening, I sort of turned to writing.

“I did a course online, actually Jed Mercurio’s course and I just really enjoyed writing.”

“I’ve had this idea in my head for a drama based in the ballroom world, the ballroom competition world, for quite a long time. It’s sort of in the works at the moment…,” he added.

Surprisingly, the former Strictly star admitted he doesn’t feel comfortable dancing in a social situation.

“Dancing socially, I don’t really know what to do,” Kevin confessed.

“Unless it’s choreographed, and put together and there is a real purpose behind it, and a character and a story, and choreography. If it’s just here’s some music start dancing I’m a bit of a dad dancer. I don’t know what to do.”

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs on weekdays on Channel 4 at 12.30pm
