I'm a Celeb: Babatunde forfeits ledge challenge
However, they didn’t seem to be expecting to hear the famous words uttered just 30 minutes into the first show. After Babatunde Aleshe decided he couldn’t do this year’s first challenge, which involved walking out onto a plank on top of a skyscraper, he quickly said: “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” while Charlene White and Jill Scott continued.
Charlene had already walked to the end of her plank and was waiting for Babatunde to join her.
After some hesitation though, the actor admitted: “I can’t do this.”
Making up his mind, he added: “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!”
Twitter didn’t respond kindly to such a quick challenge bail, and many took to the social media platform to express their disbelief.
Twitter user @alwaysgivingout wrote: “He tapped out at the first hurdle #ImACeleb.”
@cookiejoe9 added: “Ffs 1st task FAIL #ImACeleb.”
@islandgirl767_ commented: “Not well done bubba #ImACeleb.”
“If Babatunde can’t do this what does he think he’s gonna do in the jungle? He knows it’s not gonna get easier right? #ImACeleb,” @niccijane_cfc asked.
@emmaa_w added: “Omg he said I’m a celebrity get me out of here #ImACeleb.”
Some sympathised though, with @Jessey_Pearce commenting: “Poor Babatunde being afraid of heights I could never do that myself but well done Charlene and Jill! Amazing ladies #ImACeleb.”
As Babatunde approached the ledge nervously, Loose Women star Charlene encouraged him to keep going.
“Come on, do it for your boy!” she told him while Ant and Dec added: “You can do it.”
“Come on Baba,” Jill remarked as she waited for her turn to take the frightening walk.
“Just one foot in front of the other,” Dec advised him, but the Celebrity Gogglebox star began take a step back.
“The other way!” Ant instructed. “Not backwards, forwards!”
“I can’t do this,” he replied. “I can’t do this, I can’t do this… I’m a celebrity, get me out of here.”
“Sure?” Jill asked as he repeated: “I can’t do this.”
“Alright, let’s get him down, let’s get him down,” Dec requested.
“Just step back gently and slowly,” he added while Babatunde apologised to Charlene, who was still waiting out on her ledge.
“It’s alright, it’s okay” she replied, looking nervous as she looked down from the 32-storey building.
I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues on Monday at 9pm on ITV.
