Gogglebox fans furious as Phillip Schofield tribute kicks off show after affair
Gogglebox kicks off with a Phillip Schofield tribute
On Friday night’s instalment of Gogglebox, the show kicked off with snippets of what was to come in the episode which featured the latest television news that’s happened over the past week.
One of which included Phillip Schofield stepping down from his role on This Morning after 21 years.
Showing a clip of Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary paying tribute to the presenter, viewers believed it was in bad taste following the recent news that emerged on Friday evening.
Since the Gogglebox episode was filmed, it’s been revealed that Phillip had an affair with a younger male colleague while still married to Stephanie Lowe.
As the Channel 4 show spoke about Phillip’s exit from This Morning, the stars of Gogglebox were left divided.
It wasn’t long before viewers took to Twitter to slam the coverage of Phillip Schofield as many believed the show should have been edited after the affair announcement.
DavidMackayy said: “This segment about #gogglebox is making me sick, the two girls saying he’s a national treasure.”
GavinEvs added: “Haha great timing”
MillieSansoye commented: “I cannot believe #Gogglebox are still showing coverage of Schofield.”

AnnieBannister said: “So, first item on #Gogglebox is *that* situation.
I’m quite surprised that there wasn’t a last minute (mmmm, really last minute!) change.”
Twitter user TashAmaka added: “They should have left this segment and reported on Philip next week with the latest news.”
During the segment, Gogglebox read out the statement from Phillip’s Instagram that he revealed to fans last weekend.
Picking up on the fact Phillip failed to mention his co-host, Holly Willoughby, Sophie Sandiford said: “You’ve had the wonderful friendship for years and years. She’s been your rock et cetera, et cetera-”
Cutting in, her brother added: “But it goes down that vein of we’ve fallen out then. If he doesn’t mention her.”
Whereas Stephen Webb revealed he believes Holly will be the next person to leave as he claims it looks as though she “threw him under the bus”.
Gogglebox continues Fridays on Channel 4 from 9pm.
