Emmerdale fan recalls 'worst ever soap scene' and they have a point

An Emmerdale fan has branded a vintage scene from the ITV serial drama as ‘one of the worst things’ they’ve ever seen in a TV soap opera.

The online user, who rediscovered said scene, took to social media to share a clip of Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) stranded in the garage amid a fiery blaze from a 2012 storyline.

‘This is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen on a soap’, they tweeted, referring to the camera work, which differs greatly from that usually used in the soap.

Emmerdale bosses may have also opted to experiment with early CGI and green screen for the scene in question, which soaps had primarily avoided until more recently, with practical effects more often utilised.

A number of fans were quick to react on social media, with one writing: ‘WHAT IS THIS?’, while another pondered: ‘HOW did that make it to air?

‘I always hate the use of that kind of camera shot!!,’ exclaimed another.

Special effects aside, the scenes and storyline was as compelling as ever, and remains one of the many times Cain has managed to evade death.

The character has, more recently, had troubles to deal with, after his feud with Al Chapman exploded last year, with Kyle coming to his dad’s rescue, shooting Al dead in shocking scenes.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
