Eamonn Holmes has shared his big news which he promised would be coming on Wednesday's episode of This Morning.

He revealed that his eldest son Declan and his wife Jenny are expecting a baby, meaning Eamonn is set to become a grandfather for the first time.

"Declan and Jenny, the clue is their surname is Holmes, Declan is my eldest boy, he's 32 years of age and Jenny is his wife," he said, dragging out the surprise.

"They have just announced that I will be a grandparent, which means I'm gonna be a grandad!"

Eamonn said he'd been "emotional" and "in tears" about it since finding out the news, while wife Ruth Langsford clapped next to him.

Ruth is not Declan's mother, as Eamonn shares the dad-to-be with his ex-wife Gabrielle.

Eamonn and Gabrielle are also parents to Rebecca, 30, and Niall, 28.

He and Ruth share one son, Jack Holmes, who is 19.

On Tuesday evening, the 61-year-old took to Twitter with a photo of him holding a finger to his lips, telling his followers he was excited to reveal all.

"It's even, for the moment, made me forget my chronic pain – yes it's that good."

People began speculating as to what it could be, with suggestions including a role on the new GB News, he and Ruth returning to This Morning's Friday slot, or that he could be replacing Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.
