Doctor Who season 13: New companions, Captain Jack’s ‘return’ and 3 other spoilers

Doctor Who: John Barrowman discusses Daleks' return

Doctor Who aired its highly-anticipated Revolution of the Daleks episode this evening, which resulted in emotional exits for Ryan Sinclair (played by Tosin Cole) and Graham O’Brien (Bradley Walsh) after The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) had unknowingly left them to their own devices for 10 months. However, with fans already wondering where this might leave their favourite characters in the season to come, Express.co.uk asked the questions about what could happen next.

Will Captain Jack feature in season 13?

This is the one question fans undoubtedly want the answer to after Jack’s presence was a welcome return in the festive special.

The chemistry between The Doctor and Jack had remained with the pair reminiscing over old-times, with it clear they were delighted to be back in each other’s company.

With Captain Jack revelling at the chance to travel with his old friend, it feels as though it may be far from the last time he’s seen on-screen.

Could this lead to another return from him in season 13, or potentially appearances from other members of Torchwood?

Will The Doctor finally discover the truth about her past?

The Doctor had a candid discussion with Ryan about her upset at finding out her planet of Gallifrey was not truly her home.

“I’m not who I thought I was Ryan,” The Doctor told him. “What I always knew to be the story of my life isn’t true, I wasn’t born on Gallifrey.

“Some of that has been hidden to me and I don’t even know how much,” she noted.

“When we’re done with this Dalek problem, find out about your life,” Ryan urged her.

Could this be the confirmation season 13 will focus largely on The Doctor’s past being explored in even more detail?

How will Yaz and The Doctor move forward?

Some fans of the BBC epic are convinced there could be romantic scenes to come between the time-travelling duo.

And it didn’t go unnoticed by Jack how much Yaz had missed The Doctor after she returned in the TARDIS this evening.

“I saw the way you shoved her, you thought she wasn’t coming back right,” Jack remarked.

“I just missed her, I never stopped to think,” Yaz replied. However, could there be sparks to fly in season 13?

Will there be more newcomers in season 13?

The Doctor and Yaz were gutted to say goodbye to Graham and Ryan this evening after the pair realised how much they needed each other.

“My mates need me. I know this sounds stupid but I feel like my planet needs me, you’ve got to fight for it, right?” Ryan told the gang.

Graham followed in his footsteps and decided he couldn’t be without his grandson: “I’ll always be looking around to say stuff to you, Ryan. You’re my family…

I’m ready, I want to be at home with my grandson,” he declared before the pair exited – leading to an emotional final scene featuring a cameo appearance from the late Grace O’Brien (Sharon D. Clarke).

It was revealed this evening new companion Dan (John Bishop) will join the duo – but will anyone else be travelling the TARDIS in season 13?

What did the Rose Tyler clue mean?

Rose Tyler got a special mention in the episode from old friend Captain Jack.

When casually explaining to The Doctor’s companions how he had once been killed by the very enemies they were trying to destroy.

Speaking of his death at the hands of the Daleks, Jack joked: “Partially her [The Doctor] fault, partially a friend of hers called Rose.

“She’s trapped in a parallel universe now,” he added.

But after Jack was able to save The Doctor from such a seemingly impossible situation, could this be a clue Rose may make a surprise return in the future?

Doctor Who seasons 1-12 can be streamed on BBC iPlayer now.
