Hairy Biker star Si King has shared an update on his co-star and best friend Dave Myers as he battles coronavirus. The presenter made another solo appearance on Times Radio today after telling The One Show last week that Dave was suffering from the virus. He spoke about how Dave was dealing with the illness and also about their friendship over the years.

Speaking on Dave’s health, Si explained: “He’s doing as well as he can, and he’s tough, Dave.

“I’m really disappointed that he isn’t with me, of course, because it feels a bit odd, it does feel a bit weird.

“The idea for getting in touch with people was Dave’s idea, and he’s incredibly passionate about that, so it’s a shame,” he said.

Si joked: “He is doing as well as can be expected, wrapped up at home eating soup, I don’t know if he can taste it or not.

“12 days now, I think, so hopefully, he’s going to turn a corner soon.”

Talk also turned to the pair’s friendship, with Si exclaiming: “I think that we don’t overanalyse it, we’re just good mates, but we’re different people, we’re just great mates.

“My weaknesses are Dave’s strengths, and Dave’s weaknesses are my strengths, so we kind of rub along like two old slippers.

“But I think collaboration is incredibly important because there are other emotions connected to that conversation.

“There is trust, there is integrity, and you can’t have true collaboration without all these other influences, it’s incredibly important collaboration,” the Hairy Biker said.

He continued: “We’re just like mates, but in a northern way, we absolutely adore each other and don’t mind giving each other a kiss and cuddle.

“I give Dave kisses and cuddles, and he goes, ‘Will you just get off me?’ He’s been putting up with it for about 30 years.”

Being asked about what the pair do if they can’t fix something, Si explained: “We probably thrash it out until the issue is resolved.

“But I think that what we tend to do is if one of us is particularly vehement is, ‘No, I don’t want to do that,’ then we leave it alone, but if someone is like, ‘Oh I really want to do that,’ then we’ll give it a go.”

On Monday, Si also appeared on BBC Breakfast with hosts Sally Nugent and Dan Walker, to which they also asked where his partner in crime was.

To which Si joked: “Well, he’s not here, so you’ve got me obviously, or there would be two of us.

“He’s poorly he has Covid, he’s getting there, I think it’s hit him a little bit harder than he was and any of us were anticipating, really.

“But you know Dave’s as tough as an old boot, so he’s proper rock hard when I’m going, ‘ah, Dave go get a hold of yourself man and get on with it’.

“But he’s not very well at the minute, but you know we’re keeping a close eye on him,” the TV presenter explained.

The pair have been through everything together, including Si’s health scare a few years ago, which Dave was by his side for.

After suffering headaches and excruciating pain, it was confirmed he was suffering from a brain aneurysm and was told he could have died if he hadn’t travelled to the hospital.

Seeing his best friend in the condition he was, Dave explained: “To see your mate lying there. It’s terrible. That night he went in, he was sick as a parrot but conscious.”
