Dan Walker’s new show under fire for Tom Parker blunder during emotional interview

Dan Walker's new Channel Five show has been hit with complaints after a production error misnamed the late Tom Parker, who tragically passed away last year from a brain tumour aged 33.

The error was made during an emotional interview with Tom's bandmate Siva Kaneswaran, in which he discussed paying tribute to his late friend during his time on Dancing On Ice.

During the interview, Siva, 34, held back tears as he told: "I'm getting emotional ten seconds into the interview." He went on to describe how he wanted to deliver a beautiful performance for Tom and create a lasting memory for his wife and children.

He recalled: "When his voice started [in the song Siva skated to], if you look at the opening scene, I’m literally gasping, thinking ‘Tom, get me through this.'

"We’re still grieving, it’s not even been a year yet. It is just to make sure to keep communicating for everyone who loved him."

However, viewers were left annoyed by the information bar at the bottom of the screen reading: "Siva Kaneswaran Pays Tribute To Bandmate Tom Walker."

Many fans took to Twitter to express their upset at this mistake, with one writing: "@mrdanwalker I was quite surprised to see Tom walker instead of Tom Parker during your interview with @SivaKaneswaran how could someone get that so wrong…"

"@channel5_tv getting Tom Parker’s name wrong is not a good look when they’re trying to pay tribute to him…" added another.

And a third said: "@5_News if you’re going to report on someone as amazing as Tom Parker please get his name correct. Also you misspelt @SivaKaneswaran name at the beginning. Still lovely to see our brilliant Siva paying tribute to Tom who is missed so much."

During his time on Dancing On Ice, Siva had spoken about how he is still mourning the loss of Tom, and in one VT broke down in tears, as he told viewers: "When I think about the past, I just think about Tom.

"Last year, Tom passed away. I guess I’m still grieving, yeah, I’m still grieving."

Siva continued: "I witnessed his courage when he was fighting with his illness and it was so inspiring. I thought I’d bring that into my life and face my fears."

Siva has also opened up about how Tom's tragic passing has led him to do things he’d never have done in the past.

He said: "It reminded me that life was worth living. I’ve been making decisions based on that – doing my driving test finally in Los Angeles, booking the flight I always wanted to go on, and signing up to a songwriting degree course.

"All my fears have shrunk. I’m grateful for everything that comes at me and this [Dancing On Ice] is another thing that has come my way. Let’s have fun with it!"
