Batwoman's Javicia Leslie teases secret history with Ryan and Alice will emerge

Batwoman is bringing a brand new superhero into the fold as Javicia Leslie dons the iconic leather in season 2.

Following the short and swift exit of Ruby Rose, who played Kate Kane/Batwoman in season one, new arrival Javicia has a lot of work to be getting on with as Ryan Wilder is introduced to viewers.

But while she might be new to us, there is someone who is all to familiar with her… Wonderland Gang crime boss Alice (real name Beth, Kate’s sister), who may be pretty close to the girl who will become the Caped Crusader.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of the show’s launch, Javicia explained: ‘I can’t tell you too much, you have to watch! There is definitely a history that Ryan and Alice have, and it’s going to be actually a huge part of the season.

‘Alice is a villain and when Ryan puts that suit soon on, she has to look at Alice as a villain the same way she’d look at any other villain. She has to save Gotham.

‘But Alice is Alice, so she’s gonna do whatever it takes to destroy everyone, anything that crosses their path, or that tries to stop her.’

In the new series, a mystery appears within seconds when Kate Kane disappears after a plane crash, leaving nothing but her Batsuit behind.

Ryan soon ends up taking over the mantle in a bid to protect Gotham, but that never comes without a price.

But while character Ryan is finding her feet, Javicia – the first ever Black portrayal of Batwoman – is jumping in and ready to go, and even has her hopes laid out for the LBGT character’s future.

‘If the sky was the limit, and there were no limitations on who can enter the world of bathroom and let’s bring them all! Let’s bring Joker, let’s bring Penguin, let’s bring all of them!,’ she laughed.

‘But you know what i would love if I could pick anything and this is just really off the top of my head, but I love the energy that Batman and Catwoman had.

‘I would love to have like that supervillain love interest, where you know this person is really bad for you but you can’t help but want to be with them.

‘So I would love that for Batwoman to find her own version of the Catwoman.’

Will she find it in the new series…?

Batwoman season 2 launches Sunday January 17 at 8pm ET/7pm CT on The CW in the US.
