A Contestant From Colton Underwood's 'Bachelor' Season Refused to Go on 'Bachelor in Paradise' Because the Men Were Too Young

Clare Crawley’s Bachelorette season has been quite a wild ride — and it’s ending as Tayshia Adams’ season. But prior to these two leading ladies, we can’t forget about Colton Underwood’s season. While Adams got her start as a contestant on The Bachelor, a few other fan favorites are getting some attention as well.

Elyse Dehlbom left The Bachelor on her own accord. And when asked if she’d ever go on Bachelor in Paradise, she noted all of the men in the past have been far too young for her. Here’s what she said.

Elyse Dehlbom broke up with Colton Underwood on ‘The Bachelor’

Dehlbom was an early fan favorite on Underwood’s Bachelor season. But she decided to leave after realizing she wouldn’t be able to accept engagement after just knowing Underwood for a few short months. While she felt like she had an amazing connection with Underwood, she knew the show wouldn’t allow her to have the time she deserved to spend with him in order to fully grow their romance.

“I like you. I think that’s crazy obvious when we’re together,” she told Underwood after finding him alone in his room, E! News notes. “I listen to these girls talk about how much they’re falling in love with you. This isn’t working for me. I have to leave.”

Dehlbom then added, “I just don’t think it’s authentic for me to say I care about you and I respect you and not want you to get what you want out of this when I can’t accept your proposal in a few weeks.”

As for how Underwood felt, he was confused by Dehlbom’s departure — but he always had a feeling he would end up with Cassie Randolph.

Dehlbom didn’t want to go on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ because the men were too young

Dehlbom talked on the Help! I Suck at Dating podcast about her experience on The Bachelor.

“He wasn’t the person for me, and I knew that,” she explained. And as much as she would’ve loved to move on to the next country the rest of the women on her season were visiting, she knew it was her time to go home.

Then, the podcasters asked Dehlbom if she was asked to go on Bachelor in Paradise.

“I think when I left the show, they were originally aware that I might not be open to it,” she said. “But then, as time goes on, you kind of, ‘Well, maybe.’ I don’t want to say no to an opportunity. So, we talked about it, but by the time we got my testing and all that stuff done, everyone had pretty much coupled up.”

Dehlbom was then asked if she’d go on Paradise in the future.

“I’ll tell you what — sure,” she answered. “Because at least Clare’s guys are age-appropriate.” And she noted that the men being too young for her was a “huge part of” why she didn’t want to go the first time.

Clare Crawley had some of the men on her ‘Bachelorette’ season recast

While Dehlbom is happier with Crawley’s Bachelorette picks, it seems Crawley even had to do some finagling to get the men she wanted. At 39 years old, she was ready to find a man who was serious about her — and it seems the men originally cast for her season were all much too young. The pandemic’s delay on show production allowed some of the men to be recast.

“I wanted a guy who was genuinely there for me,” she told People, according to E! News. “There was a lot of talk about, ‘Oh, I’m the older Bachelorette, are these guys too young?’ But it was also about: Am I too old for them? It went both ways. So we were able to hone in on what everybody was looking for.”

We’ll have to wait and see if Dehlbom will make a future appearance on Bachelor in Paradise with older guys!
