Riverdale is in the middle of season five, following the Core Four seven years after they have left high school. Plenty has changed over the years with numerous stories being left unresolved as if forgotten by the writers. Here are just some of the plots which were dropped by the Netflix and The CW drama.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale.
7 Riverdale plots the drama dropped
Josie and the Pussycats
Josie McCoy (played by Ashleigh Murray) was the lead singer of the girl group Josie and the Pussycats who performed whenever there was a show on at the school.
They claimed to sing original music but they didn’t play any of their own songs unless they were singing alongside Archie Andrews (KJ Apa).
The band was sidelined early on with very few scenes for Josie’s bandmates Mel and Val.
Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) would do some roleplaying, wearing a black wig and calling herself Polly.
She almost drowned a teenager in a jacuzzi who had been sexually harassing other students while she was Dark Betty.
Betty even got Chic (Hart Denton) to teach her to be a cam girl but this wasn’t mentioned again.
Rather than her being into role play, instead, the plot turned to her having the serial killer gene.
Toni and Jughead were friends
Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) was first introduced as a friend of Jughead Jones’ (Cole Sprouse).
When he transferred to Southside High, Toni volunteers to be his tour guide and they grew close.
They even shared a kiss but Toni afterwards said how she was a lesbian so they remained friends.
Since then, Toni and Jughead have hardly been in any scenes together as both have been too wrapped up in their relationships.
When Toni and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) were exiled from the Serpents, they formed a girl gang instead.
The Pretty Poisons were hardly featured in Riverdale and were hired as security for Veronica Lodge’s (Camila Mendes) club.
The gang disappeared by the end of season four and haven’t been spoken of at all in series five, with Toni now the Serpent Queen.
In season four, Mary Andrews (Molly Ringwald) was eager for Archie to attend the Naval Academy.
This is initially why she welcomed her college friend Brooke to their home.
But Mary later revealed that they were more than friends and Brooke was actually her girlfriend.
Neither Mary or Brooke have been seen in season five and the latter hasn’t been mentioned since she met Archie.
Archie’s drink problem
Archie survived a horrific bear attack which hardly gets talked about.
Another element of the show which has been ignored is his subsequent drink problem.
Having gone through the trauma of almost dying, Archie turned to drink for comfort, hosting parties and drinking excessively.
And yet, Archie hasn’t shown any signs of a problem with alcohol as if it never happened.

Riverdale season 5: Jughead and Tabitha romance ‘sealed’ [SPOILER]
From the very beginning of Riverdale, Jughead narrated as if the show was the book he was writing.
He had been talking as if the plot was centred on the death of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines).
But when the book The Outcasts was actually published, there was no mention of Jason insight.
Instead, it was about the Serpents, drifting from the original idea of Jughead writing about the events of the town.
Riverdale season five is now in the middle of a hiatus, taking a break from our screens.
Unfortunately, it’s going to be quite some time until it returns for the next episode.
Riverdale series five, episode 11, is expected to be shown on Wednesday, July 11.
Riverdale is available to watch on The CW and Netflix.
