Finance Minister Scott Bessent: Zelenskyy refuses mineral transactions twice

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has twice refused to sign minerals with the United States.

“This has to be one of the biggest diplomatic accidents ever,” Bescent said in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Friday.

Bessent explained that Zelenskyy told him at a meeting in Kiev that he would not sign a mineral agreement, which would allow U.S. aid billions of dollars from Ukraine to provide aid funds for rare earth and other resources. Bessent said Zelenskyy also refused to close the deal with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

On Friday, Trump and Vance condemned Zelenskyy in a panoramic view of reporters and rolled the camera. The intense exchange led to the cancellation of the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.

“It should have been a good day, and it was one of the biggest goals in diplomatic history,” Best said.

He added: “Today, he would be shocked to act like this on cameras in front of the world.”

On social media site X, Senator Eric Schimitt, RM, posted: “Zelenskyy could have signed the deal five days ago but wanted to go to the White House. It was hard for him to come for two weeks. But he wanted to attend the White House meeting. Trump was optimistic the next day, both publicly and privately, although he could have been open and privately on the whole thing.

“Today we had a very meaningful meeting at the White House,” Trump wrote. “Under this kind of fire and pressure, a lot of things would not be understood without conversation.”

“Thank you, USA, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit,” Zelenskyy posted on X on Friday afternoon. “Thanks @potus, Congress and the American people. Ukraine needs peace and we are working on it.”

Fox News’s Morgan Phillips contributed to the report.
