Donald Trump has warned Vladimir Putin that the United States is prepared to impose a series of new trade restrictions on Russia if it fails to reach a deal soon to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump’s statement in a “Truth Society” post on Wednesday came as the new U.S. president seeks to increase pressure on Moscow to enter negotiations with Ukraine.
“If we do not reach a deal soon, I will have no choice but to impose high taxes, tariffs and sanctions on any goods sold by Russia to the United States and other participating countries,” Trump wrote.
“If I were president, this war would never have started, let’s end this war! We can do it the easy way, or we can do it the hard way – the easy way is always better, ” he continued.
