Trump has only publicly abandoned 1 of his biggest “day” promise
President Donald Trump admitted this week that prices are rising – but insisted that despite his repeated claims that he would lower prices on his first day at work, it was not his fault.
“Inflation is back,” he told Fox News host Sean Hannity in an interview aired Tuesday night. “I’ve only been here for two and a half weeks…I have nothing to do with it.”
According to the Department of Labor, the Consumer Price Index rose 3% in January compared to January 2024, higher than most analysts expected.
Trump immediately blamed former President Joe Biden, despite previously claiming that he stopped inflation within hours of taking office on January 20.
According to a video by progressive media Meidastouch, he said on August 15: “I will immediately start to fall from day one.” The price will be raised quickly. ”
Trump has said this in other ways, including his claim last summer: “From the first day, we will end inflation and make it affordable for the United States again.”
Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) has been keeping many other times Trump makes similar promises.
Once in office, however, Trump quickly supported his idea that he could immediately cut inflation and improve the economy, acknowledging that his plan to impose tariffs on other countries could lead to “short-term pain” for U.S. consumers.
When Hannity tried to cultivate the economy in her last interview, Trump didn’t want to talk about it at all.
“Let me get into the economy,” Hannitti said in an interview shortly after Trump took office. “I don’t have time.”
“I don’t care.” Trump shot backwards as he roared at Biden for a long time. “This is more important.”
However, voters seem to disagree.
Last week, CNN data reporter Harry Enten said the new poll found that most Americans want Trump to focus on inflation or the economy in general, but two-thirds The people said he didn’t do that.
He predicted that this could lead to diving at Trump’s approval rating.
“Let me be totally clear: inflation overwhelms Joe Biden’s presidency, it’s alive,” Enten said. “If Donald Trump is not careful, inflation will destroy his presidency and keep it alive.”
