The couple and one of their three dogs were found dead at their home in New Mexico on February 26 Adan Mendoza New details about the key evidence are provided in this case.
Arakawa, 65, was found lying on the bathroom floor, near a space heater and an open bottle of prescription medicine with an affidavit on it, a search warrant obtained by NBC News on February 27.
Investigators also collected records of 2025 monthly planners and two green phones using warrants from Myquest, an online health lab results portal.
Earlier in the day, Mendoza stressed the importance of the pills in the ongoing investigation, describing it as “a concerning thing.”

The sheriff also noted that a full toxicology report “can take up to three months or more” to complete, but added that his team “hopefully it comes sooner than later.”
Meanwhile, Mendoza said in a February 28 press conference that authorities believed the couple and their dog died of carbon monoxide poisoning after Hackman and Arakawa tested negative for the substance. However, he noted that if “there are other things in the toxicology report, the police can reexamine the cause.”
