The controversial “Marilyn forever” statue heads to the new home and will become cleaner
For those who want to take a selfie of “Marilyn forever” before she is moved, your time has run out.
The 26-foot-tall statue will move from Sunday. However, Marylin Monroe lives a longer life than she lives. She was placed less than 100 feet away on Museum Road and downtown parks.
People visited the Forever Marilyn sculpture on November 22, 2024 in downtown Palm Springs, California.
“We look forward to the ‘forever’ of having permanent residence in Palm Springs. “In 2024 alone, the statue will welcome 996,033 visitors. From social media posts to discussions in neighborhood groups, the love for “Marilyn forever” is incredible. It would be great to focus only on all the happiness she brings to the residents and visitors of Palm Springs. ”
In addition to being moved, the statue will be cleaned and renovated. The entire operation is expected to end on February 28.
The move is part of a commission’s lawsuit that relocates Marilyn, which opposes the statue’s location in the middle of the public street. Some members of the group also criticized the statue, which depicts Monroe in the 1955 film The Seven Years Itch, whose outfit blows in the wind, is misogynistic.
The lawsuit costs hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and will cost nearly $500,000 in additional funds to move, and PS Resorts is paying for it.
Despite the criticism, a 2021 study showed that 86% of Palm Springs residents found the statue to be a “funny and free appeal” while 75% agreed. Statues will help promote cities around the world.
Monroe was closely associated with Palm Springs, and he became a regular visitor to the city in the 1950s with her husband, Joe Dimaggio.
